Origin: This group of fungi are part of the Ascomycota. They are parasitic on living plants and cause Blue mould of tobacco and other plants such as cucumbers and squash. They are found in soil, air, and on leaves of decaying material. They are found in abundance after rain storms and are carried in rain droplets.
The species are found in abundance both in the sexual state (Ascomycota), and the imperfect state after rain.
Health effects: They are not known to cause human health problems but are found in very high numbers in the spring and summer after rain.
